Aims and projects of the Foundation

The foundation's aim is very simple: it is to help children in their development to become strong, healthy, happy and honest individuals. The foundation works on a personal, small scale basis by supporting Thai children in various ways, like:

Scholarship
Children who's parents cannot afford an education can apply for partial or full scholarship. This can be from preschool to university. There is no limitation in the amount of years that a child can apply.

As with all the projects, the foundation looks at the individual situation of a child. What is the best way to help this child, which responsibilities should lie with the family / child /local organizations/ school and where (and for how long) is the foundations support truly needed?

Nutritional care.
The foundation supports several local families who have financial problems and cannot buy nutritious food for their children.

This can vary from bottle feeding for new born babies who does not have a mother who can breast feed them during their first months of life. To support by buying rice for the poor.

Health care.
Support by means of health care can vary from transportation to and from the hospital, donation of material, supply in medicine, financial support for an operation, etc.

Depending on the need of the child this can be an one time action or a long term support project. Especially handicapped children who live in the countryside need extra help as there is very little for them outside the big cities. For these children material such as wheelchairs can be donated, weekly transportation to the nearest physiotherapist, linguist or other specialists, etc.

The Children's Home.
Through the scholarship, nutrition and health care project the foundation supports children within their own homes. If not with their own parents, children can usually live with relatives, perhaps with support of the foundation by one of the projects mentioned above so the foundation can relieve the financial burden of taking care of a child.

For those children (in this area fortunately very few) who have no one willing to take care of them, Thai Child Development Foundation (TCDF) offers a home and loving family life for as long as needed. For some children this maybe until adulthood, for others until mother is adult or father comes out of jail and is capable to take care of them himself in a responsible, loving matter.

Educational programs.
The Thai Child Development Foundation organizes educational activities on a regular base on the premises and in the local schools.

Focus is on friendship, the environment, creativity and the English language. The aims of these educational activities are to create environmental awareness and international friendship as well as to promote the possibilities to help underprivileged children via the other projects of the foundation, on a local level.

The educational projects are set up together with the local schools and authorities and run by an ever changing team of dedicated volunteers from all over the world, Thailand included.

(Financial) Support

The Thai Child Development Foundation is run by a Thai / Dutch staff and international volunteers. The foundation has a branch in The Netherlands to support the foundation financially (The Thai Child Development Stichting) as well as a supporting Thai organization on the premises in Phato (Runs 'N Roses eco-tourism) which offers practical help (cooking, transportation, contacts, volunteers, hosting of guests, etcetera) as well as financial support for all the overhead. We are proud to mention that donations to the foundation are used directly for the children and NOT USED for overhead-costs.

Location

The Thai Child Development Foundation is active in the countryside in Phato village, Chumpon Province, in the south of Thailand.

Phato village is surrounded by mountains and rain forest The main occupation in the area is fruit, palm, and coffee farming. Phato village has several primary schools and a secondary school. The Thai Child Development Foundation has close bonds with the village leaders, the people and the schools.

For people who would like to visit the foundation there are a few beautiful riverside bungalows available for guests.
