Summer-camp, children Ubon
This camp took place during the summer holiday of April 2004 and
was such a success that it will continue for many years to come!
In Thailand some of the Buddhist monks decide to spend their life
in favor of the community. Longpo Jantapo is like that, he is a
social leader of a big group of people in the border provinces in
the North of Thailand, one of the poorest regions of the country.
The foundation invited Longpo Jantapo to bring the children of his
group for a study-holiday-camp. He brought 17 children, aging from
3 to 18 years old.
For many of the children this was the first time they went on a
holiday and it was also the first time any of then had seen the
sea! Besides a lot of swimming and playing games, there were morning
and afternoon lessons. Longpo Jantapo taught about the honest and
good way of life in the evenings. A perfect way to get them all
to bed very sleepy...!
The foundation pays for all the costs of the camp: transportation
to and from the northeast of the country (1500 kilometer away from
Phato), food, paper, games and transportation for trips during the
camp. The program is run by volunteers and the camp takes place
in the Runs 'N Roses guesthouse.
Summer-camp, April 2005
A year has past and the school holidays was the sign to start a
new summer camp again. This year we had some major changes: only
11 children (from Kapoe, a city 75 km away from Phato) stayed overnight.
About 40 other students came from the area near the foundation,
so these students slept at their own houses and they came over every
day.
A big group, around 50 all together. That also meant a different
approach: we worked closely together with volunteers this year.
Three foreigners, Hyls from Holland and Peter and
Ziggy from Germany. Two Thai volunteers from a Thai volunteer
organization called Dalaa: Ying and Sakkarin. And
Waew, a Thai teacher from Buriram, who volunteered to help
too. Of course Longpo Jantapo, the monk was present too.
The camp took take place from 4 April until 25 April. There were
many activities planned such as horse back riding, trekking in the
national park, creative activities, lots of English lessons, and
of course games and swimming every day. We had a lot of fun and
so did the students. We are proud to say it was a success again,
thanks to the help of the volunteers! Pictures of this year camp
can be found at the picture album.
Of course next year we organize another camp. For this project
and for teaching in the area throughout the year we are looking
for volunteers. If you are interested please read the details about
volunteering on the page "Volunteer
work ".
Volunteer-work: teaching in
local schools
In May 2005 the Thai Child Development
Foundation started an educational program in three local
schools during the day time and a special after-school program at
the premises of Runs 'N Roses.
The volunteers work closely together with the English teachers
in the primary schools and with the educational coordinator of the
foundation. The program at the premises is depending on the skills
and creativity of the volunteers. Pictures of the volunteers and
their projects can be found in our picture
album.
For the volunteer project on teaching in the area throughout
the year and for the summer camp we are looking for volunteers.
If you are interested please read the details about volunteering
on the page "How can you help".
Summer-camp, April 2006 and October
2006
The summer camps changed this year. We organized 4 camps in the
summer in 2006. In April groups of volunteers went to 4 different
schools to do an English Summer camp. Each week another camp in
another school. By organizing in this way, the organization for
the schools was easy, they only had to participate for one week.
The volunteers had the advantage of doing the same program 4 kids.
And for the kids the camp was very close to their house.
Each camp we worked with stations: a creative station, an English
station and a game and sport station. The kids were split in groups
and they changed station every day. On the fourth day every body
worked together on a big show evening. The last evening parents
and family came to watch the kids and we said good-bye to everybody.
To move on to the next school.
During the camp all volunteers stayed in the school. Camping in
a classroom.

Summer-camp, April 2007
The year before we started with the concept of one camp per school.
The volunteers, the kids and the schools liked that a lot, so we
organized it in the same way. This year 5 schools participated and
we had about 8 international volunteers per camp available. Next
to that - and that was really wonderful - we also had a lot of Thai
volunteers this year. Students from Sawi Wittaya secondary school
joined the camps to learn English and to assist the foreign volunteers
during the camp.
The last and SIXTH camp was organized on our own premises: we had
the best Circus camp ever. On the picture
page you will find some pictures.
