Clay house building: many hands make light work!

Volunteer work is important for the Thai Child Development Foundation. It is a way to help realize a dream. Without volunteers, without people who invest their time, knowledge and enthusiasm we could never realize the projects in Phato.

Of course we would like everybody just to come over and join us, it would be great that people only need to be enthusiastic and motivated. But unfortunately: to do projects we need money. And the money we spend on volunteers, can not be used for the projects and the children. So that is why we ask a participation fee of 1.000 Baht per week for food, board, transport and support of the projects. Anybody can be a volunteer with the foundation. That is: after we agree on the work, the period you will stay and the project you will be involved in. Anybody can come: on individual base, or via an organization.

The Thai Child Development Foundation is proud to work together with the following organizations.

Working together with these organizations helps the foundation. And next to that the work that these organizations do, also means that much more people can learn about:

  • thousands of projects and initiatives all over the world

  • the possibilities to work as a volunteer

  • all those people out there who are following a dream and who are trying to make a difference.

Learning how to make garbagebins with the rangers of the National Park Asel and Joram: making toothbrush holders from bamboo Els and two of her students in Bahn Tohr Taang school Natsuki, preparing for her gardenwork Friday afternoon: meeting on the mountain. Time for a break Thailand and Bulgaria: Che and Rossi working on the dorm's furniture.

  • NICE

Ayumi, one of the NICE volunteers who joined a TCDF project.Since November 2005 the Thai Child Development Foundation works together with NICE. NICE is a Japanese organization which is very active in organizing projects on social, cultural, ecological and educational work. In Japan as well as abroad.

The connection with the staff of the Thai Child Development Foundation goes way back to the year 2000 when the founder of the Thai Child Development Foundation helped to start projects in Thailand together with people from NICE. Several Japanese volunteers came to help us realize our dream via NICE.

SIWYvonne, the first SIW volunteer to join a TCDF project.

It started in the year 2000: a Dutch girl - Roos Tieges - went to Thailand as an intern for SIW to help set up projects there. She worked closely together with the people from NICE (Japan). Many projects are done over the years by Roos and many other SIW and NICE volunteers.
In 2003 Roos started her own foundation: the Thai Child Development Foundation. And the connection with SIW is established again: since March 2006 Dutch volunteers can join the projects of the foundation via SIW.

SIW was set up to help people realize projects with the assistance of volunteers. Initially only projects in Holland, where many projects were realized with the help of SIW volunteers. Later the projects went beyond the borders of Holland. Europe, America, Asia, Australia and Africa are on the list of SIW. SIW informs people, organizes information weekends and prepares their volunteers for the job they are going to do and the places they will visit and live in.

    JoHo

Hiske, first volunteer via JoHoSince May 2006 the Thai Child Development Foundation works together with the JoHo company. Many volunteers find out about many different projects in many different countries via JoHo. Thailand and the Thai Child Development Foundation are just one of many countries/projects.

JoHo informs people on projects and possibilities to work abroad. As a volunteer, on regular work, on internships. JoHo is an international organization, based in Holland, and their aim is to create many centers all over the world. JoHo has several centers in Holland and abroad. In these centers there will be information on international cooperation, work and traveling. Sharing knowledge, creating international contacts, awareness and inform people is the aim of these centers.

JoHo helps people who choose to be a volunteer with information on projects, but also with information on traveling, preparation, health, security, medical information, insurance and even tickets.

JoHo also works with a subsidized program of the Dutch ministry of foreign affairs. That means that young people who want to work abroad as a volunteer can get financial support for their trip, their stay and their project. People who apply for this program, should also do an additional program in Holland and - for example - inform people about their work as a volunteer. The Thai Child Development Foundation is very happy with initiatives like this, because it gives more people the possibility to be a volunteer, anywhere in the world. For more information you can contact JoHo or read this flyer (in Dutch).
